Settle on the type of person you want to be
& stick to it whether alone or in company.
Having a set of principles or ideals and defending that which you value is a key tenet of living a meaningful and authentic life. Defending what you value could come at a personal cost. It means standing up for your beliefs in the face of criticism or challenge, or taking action to defend someone or something that you care about.
What you value shapes your goals and priorities, it motivates your actions and influences your purpose. Your value system is more important that materialistic, success or social validation.
Unless you stand for something, you fall for anything. If you've made it this far in life without establishing your core values make today day one and not just one day.
-
Reflect on your beliefs and experiences: Think about your experiences, the things you care about, and the things that are most important to you.
-
Identify your core values: Look for themes in your beliefs and experiences, and try to identify the values that underlie them. It could be things like Honesty, Self Control, Discipline, Integrity, Autonomy, Wisdom, Responsibility, Wealth Etc.
-
Evaluate your values: Consider whether your values are consistent with one another, and whether they align with your actions and the way you want to live your life.
-
Make your values actionable: Turn your values into specific, actionable goals and behaviors. If you value responsibility you follow through on commitments and obligations, be reliable and dependable, and take ownership of your actions and their consequences. If you value self control you delay gratification in pursuit of long-term goals, you practice healthy habits and exercise self control it in your thoughts and emotions, and maintain a positive and constructive outlook.
There is no race in life your journey is yours to own, however personal development can not take a back seat to the things society seeks to distract you with. We are in hard times and hard times create strong men. Define what you value, go towards whats right and meet on the battlefield.
